Bed Bug Control: Three Things You Might Be Doing That Do Not Work!

Bed Bug Control: Three Things You Might Be Doing That Do Not Work!

If you have ever woken up to find that bed bugs bit you in your sleep, you’ll most likely feel a mixture of shock and disgust. You’ll probably want to bathe for hours on end and spray your entire home with pesticides, but it’s good to remember that this can happen to anyone. When dealing with an unpleasant situation like this, what you don’t do is just as important as what you do

Don’t Panic!

Try not to panic! Remember, bed bugs are not attracted to dirt but are more like mosquitoes – they’re interested in blood, so you couldn’t have been any cleaner, you’ve just been somewhere where the bed bugs were. In most cases, bed bugs are picked up while traveling and then make themselves at home in your bed. Before proceeding to frantically blitz your bedroom with the vacuum and spray your whole room with disinfectant, here are three common mistakes people make when attempting to rid their homes of bed bugs:

1.  You Move to Another Room and Fail to Treat Both

Chances are, once you’ve been bitten and figured out bed bugs are the culprit, you’re not going to stay in your bed again until you’ve dealt with them. While we’re not going to tell you to continue sleeping in your bed bug-ridden bed, remember that wherever you go next will need the same treatment as your bedroom. Despite their size, bed bugs are pretty resilient creatures and can attach themselves to your clothing and even your hair, hopping off at the nearest opportunity, so make sure you eradicate the problem and not just spread them around!

2.  You Spray the First  Product You Find in the Cupboard

This is particularly important if you have young children or pets in your home. Remember that not all pesticides are safe, and all pesticides designed to target bed bugs must legally be registered with the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). You should carefully read the label on any product you use when addressing a pest problem, and if you don’t have anything to hand, at least head to the store for a specialist product or, better still, call the professionals so you can get rid of your bed bugs for good.

3.  Trying Repeatedly to Kill the Bed Bugs Yourself

We all like to think we can handle any problem ourselves, but as we mentioned above, bed bugs are notoriously difficult to get rid of without professional help. The nature of our beds means they have millions of places to hide that your vacuum and sprays can’t reach.

Sprays may kill any bedbugs on the surface of your sheets, but that’s only going to give you respite for a day or two, at best. If you want to eradicate the bed bugs without making your bed too toxic to sleep on after, the best way to get rid of them is with a heat treatment, which can only be done by the professionals.

Convectex heat treatment systems can kill all the bed bugs in just a few hours so, in most cases, you can sleep in your bed again the night after the treatment. Best of all, a heat treatment doesn’t use any chemicals, so you can rest assured knowing that not only will you not be bitten, but your family and pets will be safe to use your home as normal.
